1. Sustainable Blue Economy Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya

The first Sustainable Blue Economy Conference was held in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. It was organized by Kenya and cohosted by Japan and Canada.

  1. The theme of this conference was ‘The Blue Economy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  2. Blue Economy is economic benefit and value that is realized from Earth’s coastal and marine environment. Sustainable Blue Economy is marine-based economy that provides social and economic benefits for current and future generations, restores, protects and maintains diversity, productivity of marine ecosystems.

2. International Gita Festival, 2018 to be held in Kurukshetra

The International Gita Festival 2018 will be organised in Kurukshetra in Haryana from December 7 to 23, 2018. This year it is third year of this mega cultural event, where Mauritius is partner country and Gujarat is the partner state.

  1. Gita festival will also be organized in Mauritius next February. The objective behind this event is to spread the message of Gita to world.
  2. It is being organized to commemorate birth of ‘Srimad Bhagwat Gita’, the sacred scripture containing invaluable advice of Lord Krishna that he proffered to Arjuna.
  3. It is held mainly on 11th day on Shukla Paksha of Margashirsh month (November – December).

3. Pak PM Imran Khan lays foundation stone for Kartarpur corridor

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone for a corridor linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur - the final resting place of Sikh faith's founder Guru Nanak Dev - to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India's Gurdaspur district to facilitate visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims.

  1. Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri represented India at the event.Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was also present on the occasion.
  2. Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan is located across the river Ravi, about four kilometres from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine. It was established by the Sikh Guru in 1522.

4. Union Home Minister launches Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) for Himachal Pradesh

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh launched Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) for Himachal Pradesh at Mandi.

  1. Himachal Pradesh is the first state to launch pan-India single emergency number ‘112’ under ERSS.
  2. Under this project, one Emergency Response Centre (ERC) has been established in Shimla along with 12 District Command Centers (DCCs) covering entire State. Emergency Response Centre has been integrated with Police (100), Fire (101), Health (108) and Women helpline (1090) Services to provide emergency services via single emergency number - 112

5. Saudi-India Business Meeting Held in Riyadh

Saudi-India Business meeting was held with Council of Saudi Chambers during the visit of the Indian Infrastructure & Housing delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  1. The Saudi delegation was headed by Kamel S. Almunajjed, Chairman of Saudi Indian Business Council and the Indian side was led by Manoj K Bharti, Additional Secretary, ED Division, Ministry of External Affairs, and Government of India.
  2. The meeting was attended by top officials and CEOs of companies of Saudi Arabia.
  3. The Indian delegation is being represented by several leading infra and housing companies.

6. A.M. Naik appointed as Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation

Shri A.M. Naik has been appointed as Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

  1. Currently Shri Naik is the Group Chairman of India's biggest engineering and construction conglomerate – Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T). He is one of the most respected management professionals in the country.
  2. Shri Naik was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's 3rd highest civilian award in 2009 for his outstanding contribution to the economic growth of the country.
  3. NSDC is a unique public-private-partnership, working under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

7. Shri Arvind Saxena appointed as Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

  

The President has appointed Shri Arvind Saxena as Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

  1. The tenure of Shri Arvind Saxena as Chairman, UPSC will commence from the date he enters upon the office of Chairman, UPSC. The term of his appointment will be till 07. 08.2020 When he attains the age of 65 years or till further orders whichever is earlier.
  2. Shri Arvind Saxena joined UPSC as a Member on May 8, 2015, and has been performing duties of the post of Chairman, UPSC since June 20, 2018.
  3. Prior to joining UPSC as Member, Shri Saxena was working as Director of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC).

8. Donbass wins the Golden Peacock at IFFI 2018

Donbass’ directed by Sergei Loznitsa has won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which concluded in Goa on November 28, 2018.

  1. The Golden Peacock Award carries a cash prize of Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs) to be shared equally between the Producer and the Director, Trophy and the citation.
  2. Donbass is the official submission of Ukraine for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' category at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019.
  3. Donbass tells the story of a hybrid war taking place in a region of Eastern Ukraine, involving an open armed conflict alongside killings and robberies perpetrated on a mass scale by separatist gangs.
