1. Embassy of India in Nepal celebrates ITEC & Maulana Azad Day

The Embassy of India in Nepal celebrated Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day and Maulana Azad Day.

  1. Minister for Education, Science and Technology of Nepal Giriraj Mani Pokharel inaugurated the event in Kathmandu.
  2. ITEC Programme is fully funded by the Government of India to share India’s developmental experience with 161 friendly developing countries, including Nepal.

2. MWCD links Sexual Harassment Complaints Portal 'SHe-Box' to central/ state ministries & districts for speedy disposal of cases

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has linked SHe-Box, the online portal to report complaints of Sexual Harassment at Workplace, to all the Central Ministries, Departments and 653 districts across 33 States/Union Territories.

  1. SHe-Box, which was launched by WCD Minister Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi last year, offers the facility of making online complaints of sexual harassment at workplace to all women employees in the country including government and private employees.
  2. Those who have already filed a written complaint with the concerned Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) or Local Complaint Committee (LCC) constituted under the Sexual Harassment Act are also eligible to file their complaint through this portal.

3. Governor of Tripura Inaugurates 7th International Tourism Mart in Agartala

The Governor of Tripura Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki inaugurated the “7th International Tourism Mart for the North-East States” in the presence of Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism Shri K.J Alphons and the Chief Minister of Tripura Shri Biplab Kumar Deb in Agartala.

  1. This is the 7th edition of the International Tourism Mart, an annual event organised in the North Eastern region with the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of the region in the domestic and international markets.
  2. It brings together the tourism business fraternity and entrepreneurs from the eight North Eastern States.
  3. The International Tourism Marts are organized every year in the North Eastern States on rotation basis.

4. Sangai tourism festival held in Manipur

The annual Sangai Festival was celebrated in northeastern state of Manipur. It is grandest festival of state named after state animal, Sangai, the critically endangered brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur.

  1. The festival aims to promote Manipur as world class tourism destination.
  2. It was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
  3. Sangai Deer (also called the Dancing Deer. It is the state animal of Manipur.
  4. It is listed as critically endangered species by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

5. Government launches Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Program

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Program of Ministry of Human Resource Development’s (HRD) Innovation Cell was launched in New Delhi by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

  1. HRD Ministry has established Innovation cell at AICTE with purpose to systematically foster culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country.
  2. The purpose of formation of network of IICs is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas and processes resulting in innovative activities in their formative years.

6. Joyce Msuya appointed as acting Executive Director of UNEP

Tanzanian national Joyce Msuya was appointed as acting Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) following resignation of the executive director Erik Solheim.

  1. It was founded as result of United Nations Conference on Human Environment in June 1972.
  2. It is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. UNEP also has six regional offices and various country offices.
  3. It acts as catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote wise use and sustainable development of global environment.

7. India gets UN Environment award for combating transboundary environmental crime

United Nation Environment has awarded Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India with Asia Environment Enforcement Awards, 2018 for excellent work done by the Bureau in combating transboundary environmental crime.

  1. WCCB has been conferred this award in Innovation category.
  2. WCCB has adopted innovative enforcement techniques that have dramatically increased enforcement of transboundary environmental crimes in India.

8. Filmmaker Nandita Das to receive FIAPF Award

Filmmaker Nandita Das will be honored with the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) Award at the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane on the 29th of this month.

  1. She will be presented the award in recognition of her achievement in film in the Asia Pacific region.     
  2. Nandita Das who started her career as an actor in films like "1947 Earth", "Fire" and "Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa" also made her directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed feature "Firaaq".

9. ODI World Champions England beat India by eight wickets to enter the final of the ICC Women's World T20

Batting first, India collapsed to 112 in 19.2 overs with opener Smriti Mandhana scoring 33 off 24 balls.

  1. Amy Jones (53 no off 45 balls) and Natalie Sciver (52 no off 40 balls) added 92 runs for third wicket to take their team to the summit clash.
  2. England will meet Australia in the final.
